J. Sam Frankel
Artist – Illustrator
Born in KY – Alive in ATX
Scribe 23 -J. Sam Frankel, is an Austin-based artist and illustrator transplanted from Kentucky. Graduating from Northern Kentucky University in 2009 with his BFA in studio arts, and settling in the ATX in 2014 post military. Rejoining the art community in 2015.
The majority of his current work utilizes rich india ink washes and pen work to create detailed, vivid, chromatic illustrations. Regularly playing with the symbiosis of nature, technology, and culture. Depicting the what-if scenes that future astro-explorers may encounter as they conquer the infinite frontier of space.
On the lighter side - creating portraits of his beloved dog Rock and two cats, Mila & Leia, brought to life as pop culture icons. Further turning them into pins, stickers and prints. As well, creating custom pet portraits for various clients in the same fashion as Rockos.
Recently, crossing over into larger scale spray paint paintings - creating bold animal portraits using a stenciling technique. Layering colors and shapes in a similar style to his ink wash technique.
